Big Fish Triathlon

Mayville Lakeside Park, 50 W Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, we are writing to provide an update on The Big Fish Triathlon.

The Big Fish committee members have been coordinating with USA Triathlon and closely monitoring critical developments in recent weeks, including new recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With the uncertainty of how COVID-19 will progress in Chautauqua County, we wanted to make sure that everyone from athletes, to volunteers and the local community remained safe. With that being said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 season of Big Fish Triathlon. Unfortunately, postponement was not a viable option based on venue availability.

We have sent out an email to the athletes who are currently registered. If you registered for this season’s race, please check your email you registered with in regards to how we are handling registrations.

This was a very difficult decision to make. Many of you are returning BFT athletes, and we cannot express how much your on-going support to our race means to us. To those who have yet to race with us, we hope to see you at the finish line next year.

If you have questions, please email us at chautauqualakebigfishtri@gmail.com

 CANCELLED for 2020

A diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes changes the life of a child forever. Days filled with school, sports, and activities are quickly replaced by blood tests, insulin injections, and carbohydrate calculations. Every step required to manage their diabetes is a step away from what children see as “normal.”

2019 marked the 7th anniversary of the Big Fish Triathlon. The 2019 event raised $13,000 to support Camp Onyahsa’s week of camping for children with Type 1 diabetes. During their stay, children get to enjoy all of the camps fun traditional activities, in addition to enhanced health care from a specialized team of nurses, pharmacists, pump experts and counselors who provide supervision and also allow the parents one week out of the year to relax with the knowledge that their children are in a safe environment away from home.

The event has raised $79,489.08 over the last 7 years, as we embark on our 8th Annual event in 2020.

Dr Robert Berke, Race Director and the Triathlon Coalition would like to thank all of the triathletes for their participation and give a special thank you to all of the event sponsors for their generous donations. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who make this event possible.
